Advances in science and technology have radically changed the face of the workplace. Although almost everyone will acknowledge that with the help of electronic devices, people's productivity has been significantly upgraded, some voices believe that the negative effects of electronic devices are not non-existent. Take e-mail as an example. Though some people think e-mail is a very convenient means of communication, others advocate that it is better to talk directly face-to-face or hear the other person's voice on the phone instead of communicating through a computer. Disagreements aside, I myself am a loyal supporter of e-mail.
First of all, communication via e-mail can keep the person speaking from being influenced by the other's look and tone. I believe that everyone has the following experience: before talking to someone, they have carefully considered what they want to convey, but when speaking, they find that what they want to express is not what they mean, or under the oppression of the other person, they begin to stutter. Indeed, not everyone is eloquent. In this case, e-mail provides a good way for people to cross the barrier of ambiguity, for even slurred people can become eloquent on paper.
Secondly, various matters are recorded through e-mail communication. What everyone wants to avoid but will always happen from time to time is wrangling and shirking responsibilities at work. People try to push the unconfirmed items on the other side's head so that they can get away. Even though this is not a big deal in daily life, every detail matters at work. No one wants to take responsibility for the mistakes of others and suffer economic losses. At this time, the e-mail becomes an objective record.
Finally, email directly saves people some paperwork. In the process of work, if we get a new work content or work arrangement, the first thing we do is often to write it down. Or, if people exchange opinions on something in a meeting, what we have to do is to record the content of the conversation on paper. Since no matter what the situation is, the final destination is paperwork, why don't we keep it in such a form from the beginning?
In summary, e-mail is a convenient and reliable way of communication, which is even more valuable in the workplace.
