托福独立写作题目
Do you agree or disagree with the statement:
These days, children spend more time in doing homework or participating in organized activities related to school or sports. However, they should be given more time to do whatever they want.
1
Spending plenty of time doing homework or engaging in activities organized by schools, children may feel jaded, and this is why some propose allowing them to allocate their time however they like. Should we adopt this proposal? No.
2
It would be unfair to completely deprive children of the pastimes they like, as it is not conducive to tapping their potentials. Explicitly, children with poor academic performances may be top game players, and children who show little interests in activities organized by schools may be passionate about other walks of life like racing cars. In this sense, forcing them to spend time on homework or school activities is certainly counterproductive, and contrarily, encouraging them to explore their interests in a wider range allows for more possibilities. Not to mention, tremendous time spent in solving complex mathematical problems or memorizing obscure poems stretches students too thin, leading to burnout. In which case, giving students time to do whatever they want enables them to unwind, energizing them for the next school day.

However, we should be aware that most children are prone to misbehave, either because they are too young to be self-disciplined, or because the temptations to which they are exposed are too strong. To be more specific, children may indeed be gifted with computers, but it’s not unlikely they will be addicted to engaging games featuring the true-to-life visual and thrilling plots rather than complicated programming skills or circuit of the chips, which obviously associates with higher return. This is where school activities have an edge that under the instructions of teachers, the addiction to games is less likely and a goal-oriented study can instead be ensured. In addition, if given more time to do whatever they want, they would run out of energy before school days, in which case their mind may wander off in class, let alone devoting to the classes wholeheartedly. As a result, doing homework would become too hard, and a satisfactory academic performance, the stepping stone to elite universities and prosperous careers, could hardly be achieved.

At this point, it is crystal clear that giving children more time to do whatever they want, albeit justifiable at first glance, is not viable after a closer look.
