“过年”英语怎么说？可不能说“Pass the year!"

近日，Tony和外教在办公室聊天，Tony表示想回老家过年，于是说：“I will go home to pass the year!”。感觉外教突然一脸懵逼。

 

 

“过年”可不是“Pass the year”

 

“过年”的“过”不是等时间过去的“过”，而是庆祝的意思。过年就是”celebrate the Chinese New Year!”（中国新年），如果去掉里面的Chinese，表达的只是新年，如元旦也可以这么说。

 

元旦与春节的英文有什么区别，详见元旦可以说Happy New Year，春节为什么不行？

 

过年还可以说：celebrate the Lunar New Year. 或者 celebrate the Spring Festival.后两个就不特指中国新年了，因为一些亚洲也有春节，如新加坡，韩国等。

 

“除夕”用英语怎么说？

 

除夕是农历新年前24小时的晚上，即New Year's Eve，前面可以加上Chinese或Lunar修饰：Chinese New Year's Eve或者 Lunar New Year's Eve。

 

在除夕这24小时有很多活动，如贴春联（Putting up Spring Couplets），吃年夜饭（Enjoying a Reunion Dinner），在中国的南方还会有吃年糕（rice cake或年糕的拼音Niangao）的习惯。

 

到了晚上要守岁（Staying up Late），所以就会看春晚（Watching CCTV’s New Year Gala）来打发时间。

 

大人还会给小孩子发红包（Giving Red Envelopes / Packets / Lucky Money to Kids。

 

尤其快到午夜转钟的时候，大人小孩都会放鞭炮和烟花（Setting off Firecrackers and Fireworks）以此来增添节日气氛（Add a Jubilant Atmosphere），然后等待聆听新年的钟声（Listening to a New Year Bell），以期待赶走所有的霉运（Drive All Bad Luck Away）和新年带来好运（Bring Bood Fortune）。

 

 

“大年初一”不是“Big Year First Day”

 

大年初一就是新年的靠前天，即The first day of the Lunar New Year，或者说New Year's Day。

 

“大年初二、初三”英文怎么说？初二就是新年第二天（The Second day of the Chinese New Year），初三就是新年第三天（The Third day of the Chinese New Year），以此类推。
